What is a Vreneli? +

The Vreneli is the iconic Swiss gold coin, minted between 1897 and 1949. It weighs 6.45g and contains 5.81g of pure gold (900‰ fineness). It comes in 10, 20 and 100 franc denominations, with the 20-franc piece being the most common.

Do I have to pay VAT when buying a Vreneli? +

No. In Switzerland, investment gold — which includes Vreneli coins — is exempt from VAT. This applies both to purchases from dealers and to transactions between private individuals.

How does the platform guarantee transaction security? +

Every user will be verified at registration. Reviews and transaction history will be publicly visible. For remote transactions, an optional escrow service will be offered to secure payment and delivery.

Do I need to declare the sale of a Vreneli for tax purposes? +

In Switzerland, capital gains from the sale of precious metals are not taxed for private individuals. Gold must however be declared for wealth tax purposes at its value on 31 December. Consult a tax advisor for your personal situation.

What is the difference between buying on Vreneli-Markt.ch and from a dealer? +
